The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is a law providing rules for businesses to set fair and uniform employment practices, particularly in terms of hours and wages for American workers. FLSA can be credited for establishing three important employer obligations: the minimum wage, premium pay for overtime work (often referred to as “payment for time-and-a-half”), and restrictions related to employment of minors under the age of 18. The FLSA can apply to both part-time and full-time employees in the private sector as well as in Federal, State, and local governments, however there are some types of employees that are exempt from coverage.

Are you being treated fairly in the workplace?
In cases where employees are covered, it is illegal for an employer to discriminate or take other adverse action against an employee who has filed a complaint relating to unpaid wages, child labor, or overtime pay under the FLSA.
In most cases, successful FLSA plaintiffs are entitled to double the amount of wages they lost as a result of their employer’s FLSA violation. These are called liquidated damages and effectively serve as a form of interest on the unpaid wages.
Florida’s equivalent of the FLSA, the Florida Minimum Wage Act, correspondingly serves to govern state-specific fair wage and employment standards.
Florin Roebig, your ally in FLSA cases.
Employers can violate the law in many ways. This may include the ways listed above, breaching an employment contract, refusing to pay commissions earned, or unlawfully interfering with an employee’s ability to get a job or stay in his/her current job. However, many actions by an employer, while unfair, are not illegal. Florin Roebig has the resources and experience gained from years of successfully representing victims of discrimination.
For every year since the inception of this honor in 2010, Florin Roebig has been selected as one of the “Best Law Firms in America” by “US News and World Report” and “Best Lawyers in America.” The Editorial Board of The National Law Journal named Florin Roebig as one of only 50 plaintiff’s civil trial firms nationwide to its 2015 “Elite Trial Lawyers” list.
